Violet Maier

Violet Maier (93) formerly of Forbes, ND. Passed away on Monday, July 10^th, 2023 at Benedictine Living Community in Ellendale, ND. Violet was born November 28, 1929 to Gottlieb & Ida (Heupel) Haux on a farmstead seven miles NW of Forbes, ND. She was a lifelong member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Forbes, ND. Violet learned the value of hard work and gained her love of cooking and family at very early age. Violet was the 2^nd oldest of 13 children. She spent many hard hours working beside her father in the field, and with her mother in the kitchen cooking and caring for the younger siblings. Violet attended various country schools throughout the local area, after she completed school Violet continued to help on the family farm. Her farm experience found her working for John and Elizabeth Maier on their farmstead NW of Forbes. It was there she caught the eye of their son Hugo.  Hugo and Violet were married on November 28, 1948 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Forbes, ND. They operated the family farm until 1966 when a Tornado came through and destroyed part of the farm it was at this time, they decided to Move into Forbes, they purchased and operated the Stateline Club. While in Forbes they also owned and operated Maier gravel and feedlot cleaning business. Later in life Violet held various positions in the community. She was a clerk for many years at the Peoples store in Forbes, she also waitressed for many years at different local restaurants, she spent a small-time cooking for the Ellendale senior center, and she also cooked for many other events. Violets love language was “FOOD” and she shared it with many. She was known as one of the best cooks in the county, and if you left from her place hungry it was your fault. Violets favorite past times included spending time with family, her “little’s”, dancing, cooking, baking, gardening, and canning. Violet is survived by her 5 daughters. Patricia (Phil) Caldwell of Altus, OK.; Sandra Erlenbusch (Donald Kuechle) of Fargo, ND.; Gwendolyn (James) Wolf of Leola, SD.; Rosina (Jeffrey) Anliker of Forbes, ND.; Valerie (Delane) Henke of Ashley, ND. Violet was the proud grandma to 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was known as Grandma Maier by many. Violet is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, two sisters, three brothers, one son-in-law, one granddaughter in infancy, one great granddaughter in infancy and one grandson-in-law.
