Verna A. Klipfel

Verna Agnes (Miller) Klipfel, 93, Ellendale, ND, died October 24, 2019 at Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale. Verna was born on December 9, 1925 to Martin Goehner and Rosina “Rosie” Siegler in Forbes Village, ND. At age five, Verna’s mother, Rosie, married Fred Miller. Verna completed her education at Hamburg School District in Dickey County. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Monango, ND. On November 26, 1945, Verna married Alvin E. Klipfel at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monango. They made their home 20 miles northwest of Ellendale. Their farm included small grains, corn, livestock and poultry. After Alvin’s death in 1993, she moved to Ellendale where she enjoyed caring for her garden, canning, church quilting, volunteering at Prince of Peace Care Center and the Ellendale Senior Center - delivering Meals on Wheels. Her greatest joys were visits from her family, especially the grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In April 2016 Verna moved to Primrose Place Assisted Living in Aberdeen, SD later moving to Prince of Peace Care Center in September 2019. Verna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), Circle 3. Verna’s loving family includes: children, Peggy (Richard) Olson, Ellendale, Wayne (Carol) Klipfel, Monango, Bonita (Ernest) King, Minot; grandchildren, Troy (Cassy) Olson, Christine (Steven) Peterson, John (Jodi) Klipfel, Jessica (Derrick) Standke, Jordan (Faith) King; great-grandchildren, Lane (Alexandra) Olson, Kayce Olson, Courtney, Brooke, Devin and Braylee Olson, Preston, Nathan and Abigail Peterson, Kara Klipfel, Tyler Gerke, Wyatt Paul, Tenley Standke, Selah King; great-great-grandchildren, Rory and Miranda Olson, Khristian and Jazzlynn Kinkead; siblings, Dorothy Merkel, Aberdeen, SD, twins Donald Miller, Forbes, ND & Donna Mueller, Champlin, MN; sister-in-law, Edna Lund, Selby, SD; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin, of 47 years; grandson Dustin Klipfel. The funeral is 10:30am Monday, October 28 at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Paul Preus officiating. Visitation: 2-6:30pm Sunday, October 27 with a prayer service at 5:30pm all at Hoven Funeral Chapel. Burial: Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.
