Sidney "Sid" John Gayman

Sidney “Sid” John Gayman of Ellendale, North Dakota, age 62, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen. He was born in the same hospital on March 7th, 1957, to John and Elma (Knox) Gayman. He was a 1975 graduate of Ellendale High School and earned an agriculture degree from the North Dakota State College of Science in 1977. He married Peggy Gehring on June 25th, 1977, had three wonderful children, and later divorced. He worked as a farmer and rancher with his father, always displaying his love for all sports: especially the Bison and the Vikings. He was known for his great memory about all things history and sports and loved to go to the sporting events of his kids and grandkids. He also loved to watch jeopardy and drive the country roads to watch the crops grow and enjoy the wildlife. Other favorite pastimes of his include hunting, fishing, and the derby in his younger years. He was known to always have a story to tell those he socialized with at the legion and for sharing many a dance with his kids, family, and friends. He is survived by his children: Darcy (Waylon) Henningsen of Fullerton, ND; Cassy (Troy) Olson of Ellendale, ND; and Kurtis (Ally) Gayman of Ellendale, ND; grandchildren: Courtney, Brooke, Devin, and Braylee Olson; Carson, Colton, and Carter Henningsen; step grandchildren: Lane (Ali) Olson and Kayce Olson; four step great grandchildren; sisters: Coleen Gayman of St. Petersburg, FL; Cheryl (Marty) Lonski of Minneapolis, MN; Linda Gayman of Ellendale, ND; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Elma Gayman. The funeral is 10:30am Monday, February 17 at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale with Pastor Ian O’Brien officiating. Visitation is 2-6pm Sunday, February 16 with a prayer service at 5pm all at Hoven Funeral Chapel. Visitation continues one hour prior to services Monday. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.
