Lorna Sand

Lorna Jane (Jenkins) Sand, 94 of Ellendale, ND died March 21, 2022 at Benedictine Living Community, Ellendale. She was born to David James and Selma (Strand) Jenkins on March 26, 1927. Lorna grew up in Ellendale graduating in 1945 from Ellendale High School. She attended summer sessions at the State Normal and Industrial College in Ellendale and then the Willis Business College in Santa Monica, CA. She married Ervin “Pat” Sand October 21, 1947. They lived on the family farm until Pat’s death in 1990. Lorna worked at the Dickey County Leader as the bookkeeper for 20 years. She then worked at the Ellendale Public Library for 25 years. Lorna was an avid reader. She was a member of PEO Sisterhood, American legion Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, Yelduz of the Shrine Auxiliary, Golden Swingers, Presbyterian United Methodist Church where she was communion steward for 44 years, Sunday school treasurer for many years and past North Dakota state secretary for the Democratic Women’s NPL organization. Survivors include her sons: Brad Sand, Boyd (Brenda) Sand; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; sisters-in-law: Lorraine Jenkins and Elaine Schulenburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pat, sisters Vivian “Gloy” and Faye and brother Raymond. A Funeral will be 1:30pm Friday, March 25, 2022 at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale with Pastor Barbara Krumm officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
