Gordon “Gordy” Kusler, 75, of Ellendale, ND died November 12, 2019, at Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale. Gordon was born October 8, 1944 in Kulm, ND to Raymond and LaVerne Kusler. He attended Haag Country School, Fredonia Elementary, and Kulm High School, graduating in 1962. He attended Valley City State University and UND EB Normal Industrial College. He held several jobs throughout his life, working many years as a lineman for Dickey Rural Telephone, school bus driver for Ellendale Public School, self-employed painter, and construction foreman for Tharaldson Hospitality Management. Just prior to retirement, he provided maintenance for Valley City Rental at their Ellendale property. Gordon enjoyed hunting and fishing from an early age. He bowled on a League at Pheasant lanes and played church league softball for many years. He served 6 years in the National Guard. Gordy was an original member of the Ellendale City Ambulance crew and was a member of Ellendale City Council for many years. He was a life-long fan of the Minnesota Vikings and NDSU Bison. Gordy is survived by his wife, Lucy Kusler of Ellendale, ND; two sisters, Diane Larson (Frank Omoike), of Faribault, MN, Marlys (Dave) Maasjo, of Valley City, ND; three sons, Corey (Cindy), of Roseburg, OR, Kevin (Heather), of Monmouth, IL, and Christopher Kusler, of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Haley Kusler of Portland, OR, Nathan Kusler of Corvallis, OR, and Kaedin and Hannah Henke of Fargo, ND; and MaryAnne Henke Sperle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and LaVerne Kusler. Sandra Roscoe Kusler, and Betty Hibbs Kusler and brother-in-law Donald Larson. A funeral service is 11am Saturday, November 16 at Church of the Nazarene, Ellendale with Pastor Kelly Riggan officiating. Visitation is 2-6:30pm Friday with a prayer service at 5:30pm Friday all at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Visitation continues one hour prior to church services.
