Floyd Vernon Mittelstedt, 87, of Ellendale, North Dakota, died October 1, 2023, at Benedictine Living Community, Ellendale. He was born on September 18, 1936, to Rudolph and Freida (Klaudt) Mittelstedt in Zap, North Dakota. Floyd graduated from the Kulm High School in Kulm, North Dakota, on May 27, 1955. He later attended college at Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota. Floyd lived in Alaska for awhile, but spent most of his life in Pomona and Ontario, California, until he returned to Ellendale, North Dakota, in March of 2021. Where he lived his remaining years In the Evergreen nursing home.
During his life and after retirement, Floyd found joy in his daily visits to libraries to read westerns and visited truck stops to hear the truckers' stories. Floyd was a kind and gentle soul with an affection for risque humor. He was smart and a voracious reader; fluent in German and Spanish. Floyd never married and had no children.
Surviving him are his brothers; Wesley (Betty) Mittelstedt and Clayton (Joann) Schott, Sisters; Diana (Mittelsteadt) Nill, Nicki (Mittelsteadt) Meidinger, and LuGail (Schott) Hamel and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-laws Norbert Steckler, Floyd Meidinger, and Darwin Nill.
There will be a private burial at the Kulm Congregational Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
