Donna M. Barton

Donna Mae (Meyers) Barton, 88 of Ellendale, ND died July 15, 2024, at Benedictine Living Community, Ellendale, ND. She was born January 14, 1936, to Clarence and Hilda (Hoss) Meyers in Aberdeen, SD. Donna was baptized May 11, 1948, and confirmed July 17, 1949, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Frederick, SD. She was raised in Frederick until moving to Ellendale at the end of her sophomore year.

On October 4, 1953, Donna married Robert Barton at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, ND. Donna and Bob later moved to the Barton family farm. Along with raising 7 children, Donna enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning, raising chickens, sewing, taking the kids to numerous activities and was never without a camera. Donna’s coffee break and dinner table on the farm would expand to include all who dropped in and that did not change after they retired and moved into Ellendale in 2004.

 She was a member of the Ellendale Zion Lutheran Church and participated in the church circle. Donna was also a member of the local Homemakers Club for many years. In Donna and Bob’s 23 years of wintering in Yuma, AZ, Donna made many new friendships. She loved entertaining and sharing her baking with her neighbors. 

 Grateful for sharing in Donna’s life are her daughters: Vicki (Roger) Henry of St. Paul, MN, Peggy Gilbert of Ellendale and Pamela (Clint) Rasmussen of West Fargo, ND; sons: Daniel (Lisa) Barton of Ellendale, David (DeDe) Barton of Elysian, MN, Gerald (Jamie) Barton of Ellendale and Jeffrey (Lisa) Barton of Carrington, ND; sister: Florence Barton of Aberdeen, SD; 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Barton, one great grandson: Reed Nelson; half-sister: Carol Cahill and half-brother: Clare Meyers.

Visitation will be 9-11am Saturday, July 20, 2024 with a funeral service at 11am all at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale. Pastor Paul Preus will be officiating. Burial is 2:30pm Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, SD. The funeral will be live streamed here on Donna’s obituary page. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
