Betty Haberman

Betty Marie (Mallon) Haberman, 98 of Covington, KY formerly of Ellendale, ND died January 25, 2025 at Rosedale Green Nursing Home in Covington. She was born November 14, 1926 to Fred and Mary (Bartels) Mallon in Dickey County, ND. Betty attended rural schools, and Ellendale Elementary, graduating from Ellendale High School in 1945. She took additional classes at State Normal and Industrial College, Ellendale, and the University of Utah, Trade Tech SLC in Utah. Betty married Ernest Haberman Jr. November 13, 1945 in Aberdeen, SD. 

Through the years, Betty was a teacher at Dickey County Rural Schools for 7 years. She moved to Salt Lake City in June 1955 and worked 11 years at Grand Central Drug SLC, and 21 years at Walker Bank and Trust which later became First Interstate Bank SLC, UT. Betty retired as Installment Loan Officer in December 1986 and returned to Ellendale with Ernest to retire. 

Betty was active in the community. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Charter Member Atonement Lutheran Church SLC, UT, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Ellendale Country Club and Ellendale Red Hatters. She also served as an officer in some capacity in most of the above and was treasurer of the Country Club for nine years. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading and handcrafts. Ernest died December 12, 1999. Betty continued to reside at her home in Ellendale until 2012 when she moved to Kentucky to be closer to Orrin.

Betty is survived by her son: Orrin Haberman; one grandson Joseph (Amy) Haberman and great grandchildren: Elizabeth Belle Haberman, Lennon and Layla Haberman. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson: Jon Haberman; daughter-in-law: Carol Haberman; brothers: Roy, Ervin and Robert Mallon and one infant brother; sisters: Edna Hatfield Wiederrich, Clara Brotherton and Arlene Rambough.

The funeral is 10:30am Monday, February 10, 2025 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Pastor Lucinda Lien officiating. Visitation is 9am to time of service at the church.
