Anna A. Melland

Anna (Hovde) Melland 87 of Aberdeen, SD formerly of Forbes, ND, passed away on June 8, 2021 at Primrose Retirement Community, Aberdeen. Anna was born August 1, 1933 in Faith, SD to Sophia and Anton Hovde. Anna married Dean Melland in 1951 and moved to a farm southwest of Forbes. Anna enjoyed reading, writing poetry, gardening, baking, games of Scrabble, family, and maintaining friendships with friends. Anna had a very special bond with all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and any of the significant people in their lives. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She was the glue of the family. Anna is survived by her husband, Dean, her six children, Barbara Peck (Chris) of Longmont, CO, Kay Lapka (Kevin) of Leola, SD, Rebecca Lucero of Boulder, CO, Kathy Satter (Mike) of Sioux Fall, SD, David Melland (Dixie) of Forbes, ND, and Debra Godfrey (Bret) of Woodbury, MN as well as 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Anna was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Agnes Flahart. The funeral is 11am June 11 at St. James Lutheran Church, Leola, SD with Pastor Judy Schultz officiating. Visitation is 4pm Thursday with family present at 6pm and a prayer service at 7pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial is at Aurdal Lutheran Cemetery, rural Forbes, ND.
