Arthur “Art” Schock, 95 of Ellendale, ND died August 29, 2017 at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale, ND. He was born July 14, 1922 to Christ and Rosina (Rott) Schock in McIntosh County, ND. After Art’s education, he went on to welding school. Later Art worked in the shipyards and a donut shop in San Francisco, California before his marriage to Gladys Schmidt in June 1945. They lived and farmed near Ellendale, moving to Aberdeen, SD for a year where Art worked as a salesman for Montgomery Ward. His love of nature brought him back to the farm near Ellendale until moving into Ellendale in 1963. Art enjoyed music. In his younger days he would entertain on Sunday afternoons with his Dad and older brother on the WOT (Watch Our Town) radio station in Merricourt, ND playing the banjo. He also played the accordion and sang in community singing groups. Art was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Ellendale serving as usher and deacon. Gladys died Aug 30, 2005 and Art continued to live in his home until he entered Prince of Peace Care Center. Survivors include two daughters: Judy (Bruce) Redding, Mobridge, SD, Peggy (Steve) Wilke of Elgin, SC; seven grandchildren: Jody (Chad) Taylor of Tea, SD, Ginger (Heath) Ewing of Rosemount, MN, Brady (Nicole) Wilke of Columbia, SC, Casey Pearson of Elgin SC, Mike Walsh of Eugene, OR, Jamie (Mike) Hunnicutt of Weaverville, NC, Sara Sims of Columbia, SC; 18 great-grandchildren: Cameron, Carson, Aspen, Jordan, Becca, Daniel, Amelia, Charlie, Evelyn, Zach, Haley, Max, Colin, Parker, Ava, Anderson, Natalie, Maggie. One brother: Arvin of Modesto, CA; one sister: Maggie Bertsch of Watertown, SD and dear friend: Delores Knoll. Art is preceded in death by his parents, wife, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. The funeral service is 2pm Wednesday, September 6 at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale with Pastor Glenn Raynor officiating. Visitation is 10am to time of service Wednesday.
