Doris Ann (Goettling) Hoven, 90 of Aberdeen, SD formerly of Bowdle, SD died September 13, 2016 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. She was born May 8, 1926, in Bowdle, SD to Paul and Bertha (Nickisch) Goettling. Doris was raised and educated in Bowdle and graduated from high school in 1944. After graduation she moved to Aberdeen, SD where she was employed at Reinhart Brothers. She later returned to Bowdle where she was employed as a postal clerk at the U.S. Post Office for eight years and Civil Service Secretary. On January 18, 1954 Doris married Vincent Hoven and they made their home in Bowdle. She was active in many organizations including the United Methodist Church in Bowdle, Farmers Union Youth Group, was Bowdle PTA officer, chairman of the Edmunds County Democrats and chairman of the District 25 Democratic Organization. In May 2012 Doris moved to Bethesda Home of Aberdeen where she resided until her death. Doris enjoyed playing cards, sewing, embroidery, gardening, watching Twins baseball and going to Minneapolis, MN with her son and daughter-in-law. Doris is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Perry and Robyn Hoven of Ellendale, ND; one daughter and son-in-law: Corrine and Philip Brewster of Overland Park, KS; three granddaughters: Marissa (Kerry) Funk, Jayce Brewster, and Elizabeth Brewster; one great-granddaughter: Daphne Funk and one sister: Alice Iler of Aberdeen, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother-in-law: John Iler. The funeral will be 10:30am Friday at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial is at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Aberdeen. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, ND.
