Russell Dean Furman

Russell “Rusty” Dean Furman, 53 of Ellendale, ND died August 27, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center, Aberdeen, SD. He was born May 1, 1959 to John and Esther (Smith) Furman in Britton, SD. Russ was educated in Britton and graduated from Britton High school in 1978. He worked in Ferney and the Groton, SD areas. He continued his education at Lake Area Vocational School, Watertown, SD graduating with a degree in Agronomy. On December 27, 1980, Russ married Karman Barton of Aberdeen in Britton, SD. They made their home in Gettysburg, SD while Russ worked for Farmers Union Oil. Later they moved to the Ellendale area where Russ was employed by the Ellendale Farmers Union. In 1988, Russ began working for the Fullerton School District as a custodian until 1992 when he returned to the Ellendale to work at the Ellendale Public School for six years. Russ continued his career working for the Frederick Area School for twelve years until July 2011 when he began his employment with the Ellendale Public School. Russ was a past volunteer for the Ellendale Fire Department. He enjoyed watching stock car races, the Minnesota Vikings, gardening, plants, being with family and his grandchildren, camping, fishing, hunting and rummage sales. He especially enjoyed helping his daughters out with the “little stuff” around their homes and lending a helping hand in the community. Survivors include: his wife Karman Furman, Ellendale, ND; three daughters: Joy (Chris) Robey, Aberdeen, SD, Nichole (Chuck) McDowell, Ellendale, ND, Rebecca Furman, Aberdeen, SD; two grandchildren: Damian “Sunshine” and Dominic McDowell, Ellendale, ND; one sister: Carolyn (Jim) Robbins, Milton, KS; five brothers: Roger (LaVonne) Furman, Britton, SD, Dennis (Marilee) Furman, Groton, SD, Lee (Jeanne) Furman, Britton, SD, Dwayne “Skip” (Caroline) Furman, Britton, SD, David (Susan) Furman, Milbank, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. The funeral is 2pm Friday, August 31, at Church of the Nazarene, Ellendale with Pastor Jon Droege officiating. Visitation is 2-6:30pm Thursday with a prayer service at 5:30pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Visitation is also one hour prior to the church service. Burial is at Ellendale City Cemetery.
