Oscar Klipfel, 91, Forbes, ND died September 13, 2011, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, SD. The funeral service is 11am Saturday, September 17 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Forbeswith Pastor Alan Eppen officiating. Visitation is 2-8pm Friday with a prayer service at 7pm at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, SD. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Oscar Klipfel was born November 14, 1919, in McPherson County near Long Lake, SD. He was the son of John and Otthelia (Roeszler) Klipfel. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Long Lake, SD. Oscar was drafted to the United States Army in 1942 at the age of 23 serving his country in the Battle of the Bulge. He fought in Holland, France, Belgium and Germany. He was a Staff Sargent at the time of his honorable discharge December 9, 1945. After he was discharged, Oscar purchased the family farm south of Forbes, ND. On May 22, 1950, Oscar married Lucille Fehling in Ortonville, MN. They moved to the farm where they built their home and slept under the stars until the roof was completed. In 1954 they moved to Akron, OH where Oscar worked as a carpenter. In 1955 they moved to Lodi, CA where he worked as a roofer and in 1956 they moved to Petaluma, CA where he worked on a dairy farm. Later they returned to the farm in Forbes where they farmed until retirement in 1981. Oscar enjoyed hunting and especially fishing. Survivors include his wife Lucille Klipfel, Forbes, ND; two daughters: Linda Waters, Cottonwood, AZ, Stella (Ronald) Martin, Forbes, ND; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
